Depending on who you deal with will set the tone of your visit. A smiling face and kind words do not make for a proper diagnosis. Anything more than routine a second opinion would be the astute course.

Arriving in Peterborough, she was immediately admitted and treated overnight for ketoacidosis. The doctor that treated her informed me that my dog would have died if I had waited until morning to have a vet look at her.

My diabetic dog couldn't stop throwing up or having diarrhea, both containing blood. I called the after hours number and was told I could wait until morning to have her treated. Her condition having worsened, I called back an hour later and insisted that she be seen immediately. As I reached the deserted clinic, I received a call on my cellphone and was informed that I should go to the emergency clinic in Peterborough instead.
